A friend of Mariah Carey’s late sister has revealed specifics about her life and her poor connection with the musician following her death.
Monday Mariah Carey confirmed to People magazine that during the weekend her mother, Patricia Carey, and older sister, Alison Carey, had passed away on the same day. The five-time Grammy winner provided no more information, including either of their causes of death.
David Baker, Alison Carey’s friend, talked about their friendship in an article with People published Wednesday, stating he chatted with her practically every dayOn for almost nine years following their first encounter in 2015.
She was healing from a brain damage she had acquired during a home invasion when the two crossed paths. After Morgan Carey, the brother of Mariah and Alison Carey, sought assistance with her in a Facebook group Baker visited her in a hospital in upstate New York.
“Well, I knew when I saw the request that I was the only guy anywhere near Albany, New York, so I said, ‘Well, I’s going to go for this,’ he said to People adding, “I saw somebody who needed help and I knew I could do it.”
Reflecting on his friend’s life, Baker, who earlier this month announced on social media that Alison Carey had entered hospice care, said she “had a tough life,” but finally “got her wish,” to die at her Coxsackie, New York home.
Though it’s still shocking, “We saw it coming,” he remarked. “She got sick rather quickly and is gone one month later.”
Baker also mentioned Alison Carey’s distance from Mariah Carey and that the two women hadn’t seen each other personally since either 1994 or 2002.
In her 2020 book “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” Mariah Carey spoke candidly about being apart from Alison, Patricia, and Morgan Carey.
The pop singer said, “My mother became Pat to me, Morgan my ex-brother and Alison my ex-sister,” People said. “I had to stop expecting them to one day magically become the mother, big brother and big sister I fantasized about.”
“I had to stop allowing myself to be hurt by them,” she said. It has been useful. Not interacting with my ex-brother and ex-sister is definitely both physically and emotionally safer for me.
“Today” said the singer also claimed in the book her sister “drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, inflicted me with third-degree burns, and tried to sell me out to a pimp.”
Following her sister’s “cruel and outrageous allegations,” Alison Carey filed a $1.25 million lawsuit against Mariah Carey in which she denounced the “heartless, vicious, vindictive, despisable and totally unnecessary public humiliation” she underwent.
It is unknown where the litigation stands.
