Mariah Carey’s Sister ‘Had A Tough Life’ And Hadn’t Met Her In Decades

Mariah Carey’s sister Alison died recently at her Coxsackie home on the same date, August 24, as their mother Patricia. Friends of Alison described her as having had “a tough life.” Many were reportedly not even surprised by her passing. However, she was able to see her children right in death bed, and she got her dying wish-to take her last breath in her own home.
David Baker close friend of the late sister of the Fantasy provided some insight into her life to PEOPLE: “We saw it coming, but it’s still a shock. She got ill fairly quickly, and a month later, she’s gone.” Earlier this month, Baker announced Alison’s entrance into home hospice care on X. There had been talk of putting her in a nursing home, but Baker helped her find her apartment in Coxsackie, N.Y., where she lived for three years until her death. “She got her wish,” he says. “She died in her own home.”

In another tweet, he wrote that Alison suffered from extreme post-traumatic stress disorder back in the 1980s “after being forced as a child to witness atrocities during late-night devil worshipping”, blaming her mother for the abuse.

Alison was a mother of four: three sons and one daughter. Two or three weeks before her tragic death, her children came to see her. As for her more famous sister, the two had a pretty complicated relationship. Mariah mentioned in her memoir that at least during that time, “it was emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact” with Alison or their brother Morgan.

Mariah spoke to PEOPLE exclusively on August 26. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” the Grammy-winning singer said.

She added that she was grateful to have been with her mother during her final moments. “I am so grateful for the outpouring of love and respect for my privacy that everyone has shown during this impossible time,” she continued.
