“My dream from childhood is starting to materialize.” Announcing her attendance at Macy’s traditional Thanksgiving Day procession, Mariah Carey posted on Instagram Friday
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade lately seems to be a little more cheerful!
Mariah Carey will perform her 1994 seasonal blockbuster, “All I Want for Christmas is You,” during the annual holiday gala in New York City on November 24.
“My dream from childhood is realizing itself! At this year’s @macys Thanksgiving day parade, I will be opening for the one and only SANTA CLAUS 🎅🏼,” Carey, 52 posted on Instagram Friday. “🎄🎉💫” See Thanksgiving Day.
Before Carey declares in a voice-over, “Hey, it’s Mariah!” in the footage, a countdown is shown heading up to Thanksgiving. See you during the Thanksgiving Day Macy’s Parade.
Three hours after it first airs on NBC, Carey will show up at the procession at noon ET before Santa Claus rounds up the yearly celebration.
Returning to anchor the Emmy Award-winning event are Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker of the Today program. While Guthrie, 50, and Kotb, 58, respectively presented in 2012 and 2018, Roker, 68 originally hosted the procession in 1995 alongside Willard Scott and Katie Couric.
Among the performers this year are sets by Gloria Estefan, Paula Abdul, Big Time Rush, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, Fitz and the Tantrums, Mario Lopez and family, Ziggy Marley, Sean Paul, Kirk Franklin and Jordin Sparks.
Starting with a brilliant opening number from Lea Michele and the Broadway Funny Girl company, some of Broadway’s best are also scheduled to perform show-stoppingly during the telecast. Additional Broadway performances feature the ensemble of The Lion King, Some Like It Hot, and A Beautiful Noise. The theatrics will be rounded out by the famous Radio City Rockettes.
Peacock’s Pitch Perfect: Bumper’s Berlin cast, which includes Adam Devine, Sarah Hyland, and Flula Borg, also has scheduled appearances.
Of course, balloons will also be really important for the procession; figures such as DreamWorks Animation’s Boss Baby, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, and Peanuts Worldwide’s Astronaut Snoopy will all show there.
Bluey by BBC, Diary of A Wimpy Kid by Abrams Books, Dino and Baby Dino by Sinclair Oil, and Stuart the Minion by Illumination are among the new giants joining the roster this year. Along with the inflatable lineup is a new balloonicle of Striker, the Fox Sports American Soccer Star.
Once more, floats will be highlighted in this year’s celebrations; five new ones will also make their debut on Thanksgiving Day. The fanciful floats include Baby Shark by Pinkfong and Nickelodeon, Geoffrey’s Dazzling Dance Party by Toys “R” Us, People of First Light by Macy’s, Supersized Slumber by Netflix and The Wondership by Wonder.
Among the returning floats are “Birds of a Feather Stream Together” by Peacock, “1-2-3 Sesame Street” by Sesame Workshop — and naturally, Santa’s Sleigh!
