Ahead of Carey and Packer’s September trip to Greece, when the pair had a quarrel ending their engagement, 36-year-old Cannon signed divorce papers.

Carey’s spokesman confirmed, as previously mentioned, that Packer, 49, had split in a statement to Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, October 27: “Mariah and James fought in Greece and haven’t seen each other since. There were no claims of infidelity or excessive spending by Mariah driving the fight. Among the most successful businesspeople worldwide is James. They are working to sort it out. Their future together is unknown right now. They are talking about it and intend to together publish an official declaration regarding their future.
According to a close friend of the five-time Grammy winner, his life under public attention was too much for him to manage. James first enjoyed being in such a public relationship, but eventually, it became too much and he yearned for his regular life. The insider said.
“James has not been present for [Mariah] so she sadly couldn’t make it work and had to leave him,” a source close to Carey told Us, refuting the claims that Packer broke off the relationship.
The “We Belong Together” star might still retain the 35-carat engagement ring Packer gave her when he proposed in January among the drama. A second person close to Carey told Us of the ring, said to be worth $10 million, “He’s not going to make her give the ring back because it’s against the law.”
Previously in the 1990s, Carey was married to music executive Tommy Mottola.
