Having collaborated professionally for ten years, the pop sensation and the creative director started dating in 2016.
Bryan Tanaka and Mariah Carey seem to have called it quits.
Tanaka has missed Carey’s events since starting her Merry Christmas One and All! tour in mid-November, which has led fans to conjecture that the pop star had split from her longtime lover.
A source reports PEOPLE Additionally celebrating the holidays in Aspen sans Tanaka, 40, is Carey, the mother of 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe (who she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon).
This is the first time the Songbird Supreme and creative director—who have worked together since 2006—have not spent holidays together in years.
When Peoples contacted representatives for Carey, they refused to respond.
The couple was last seen in public back in March when the hitmaker celebrated her birthday—which she would want to consider her “anniversary.” On Instagram, Tanaka posted a picture of himself and Carey grinning and hugging one another along with a heartfelt remark.
“This photo is among my favorites. constantly. Happy anniversary, my lovely queen. ❤️, he said, 🦋3/27.
The couple initially got in touch in 2006 when Tanaka traveled with the diva on her Adventures of Mimi tour. After ten years of collaboration, the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” singer and the choreographer developed romantic feelings in 2016.
Since they began dating, the “Obsessed” singer and the dancer—who momentarily broke up for a spell in April 2017—have toured and celebrated Christmas together in some manner.
Tanaka arrived on stage with the star in 2017 for her All I Want for Christmas Is You performances and spent the December holiday with her and her kids on their yearly Aspen trip. Carey even posted lovely pictures from their celebrations together on Instagram between visiting the slopes.
The couple was verified to spend the holidays once more in Aspen both in 2019 and 2021. After their trip in 2021, a source informed PEOPLE that “Mariah is really happy.”
Carey posted pictures from her Christmas festivities with Tanaka and her children on Instagram a year ago in December 2022. She captioned her post with “Happy Boxing Day! ❄️ (Every day is a celebration! 🎉🎉🎁).”
More recently, the Queen of Christmas revealed to PEOPLE in a digital cover story on her 2023 holiday plans, stating that she was very excited about this Christmas season.
For nearly the entire year, I have been looking forward this Christmas. Since last year was not the best, she said. “I’m glad for them all, but it wasn’t my most fun Christmas ever.”
The musician then said, “Come hell or high water, this year, this Christmas, we are going to have fun.”
