During the weeks Alison, Mariah Carey’s late sister, spent being cared for in a hospice, aimed to bring the couple back together before her death.
Following the same-day death of Alison, 63, and her mother Patricia, 87, the 55-year-old musical sensation was left heartbroken.

In her 2020 biography “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” Mariah revealed her difficult connection with Alison, alleging she had long battled drug addiction and the singer opted to cut ties to her “ex-sister.”
Baker noted of the book: “It stung since Mariah considered Alison her ex-sister. [Alison] looked after and watched over Mariah.
She already wasn’t talking to her, so when it came out, she couldn’t believe what Mariah had done. Then she kicks Alison in the teeth when she is already down.”
Following the double tragedy, Mariah expressed her grief in a statement that said: “My heart is devastated that I lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, that same day my sister passed away in a terrible turn of events.
“I count it a gift that I could spend the last week with my mother before she departed. I value everyone’s kindness and support as well as their respect of my privacy during this unearthly period.”
Following intensive rehabilitation, Mariah stated in her book that she had chosen to cut relations with both her brother Morgan Carey, 64 and her sister Alison.
She said: “My therapist advised me to physically rename and reframe my family… for my sanity and peace of mind. Alison, my ex-sister; Morgan, my ex-brother…
“I had to quit wishing for them to one day magically become the big brother and big sister I fantasised about.
“I had to stop allowing myself to be wounded by them. It has been advantageous. Not to interact with my ex-brother and ex-sister definitely makes both physically and emotionally safer for me.
